POCUS Curriculum

Didactics

Early in intern year, residents are introduced to POCUS through dedicated workshops and didactic sessions. These sessions are interspersed throughout the academic year and focus on high yield exams for primary care including but not limited to: heart, lung, FAST, AAA screening, peripheral vascular (DVT), bladder/renal, OB, soft tissues, and musculoskeletal. The curriculum is repeated on cycle to ensure that all residents are exposed to each topic and allows for repetition in learning.

These didactics/workshops are shared with residents at Summit Pacific Family Medicine and Providence St. Peter Family Medicine to allow for enriched learning and collaboration between faculty and residents at other programs.

POCUS Application of Skills

  • We have three Butterflies to perform POCUS available at the clinic all the time, so residents can practice and utilize these skills for their patients.
  • Residents are encouraged to use POCUS on days in clinic, and during inpatient, obstetrics, and emergency medicine rotations.
