Pediatrics Curriculum

In additional to caring for pediatric patients in their continuity clinics, residents have several other experiences with pediatric patients:

Inpatient Pediatrics

  • PGY-1 Year: 4 weeks of inpatient pediatrics done in partnership with the Alaska Family Medicine Residency Program (AKFMR) at Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) in Anchorage, AK; this entails 2 weeks of day shifts and 2 weeks of night shifts.
  • PGY1 and PGY-2 Years combined: 4 weeks of inpatient pediatrics spent at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA which includes time spent caring for children and newborns in the Special Care Nursery under the guidance of both Family Medicine attendings as well as attendings from Seattle Children's Hospital.

Pediatrics Emergency Medicine

Ambulatory Pediatrics

  • PGY-1 Year: Residents have ambulatory pediatric experiences in their 1st year rotating with various pediatric specialists including lactation, physical/occupational/speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, pulmonology and abuse intervention specialists.
  • PGY-2 and PGY-3 Year: In the 2nd and 3rd years, residents rotate with one of our community's dedicated pediatrics groups, Northwest Pediatrics, in Centralia for urgent care shifts.

Elective Opportunities: As part of an elective experience, residents can participate in Newborn Call at Providence Centralia Hospital to round on newborn babies, manage newborn resuscitations, and address any acute issues for newborns.
