Didactics are protected times carved out for resident learning and occur during both inpatient and outpatient rotations.
Inpatient Didactics (during intern year): While residents are on inpatient rotations during their intern year (Peds/OB/Medicine), didactics are planned/coordinated by attendings and chief residents where the whole team comes together to explore topics that are more applicable to inpatient medicine. It is also during this time where first year residents will do their hospital presentations during Medicine, OB and Peds (See Scholarly Activity).
Wednesday Afternoon Didactics/Workshops: Every Wednesday afternoon residents from our program get together with residents from the St. Peter Family Medicine and Summit Pacific Family Medicine residency programs to learn about a vast array of topics that pertain to Family Medicine. Presenters include core faculty, local specialists, and interdisciplinary teams (pharmacists, behavioral health, physical therapies, etc.), and they cover a vast array of topics that pertain to the full scope of Family Medicine.
Chehalis Rural Training Program Dedicated Didactics: Once per month, our residents are given the opportunity to attend Wednesday afternoon didactics that are dedicated to Chehalis residents and faculty to focus on specific topics requested by our residents, including complex case reviews. We recruit our local specialists to help teach these dedicated sessions to rural family medicine.
