"My residency at PSVMC definitely prepared me for my Rheumatology Fellowship. Not only did I see and independently manage complex rheumatologic cases on in-patient wards and the ICU, but was also able to complete several of my electives with local rheumatologists and the Rheumatology Department at OHSU. Upon completing the program, I was definitely the resident who had done the most joint injections! My residency at PVSMC proved to be a solid foundation for my career plans and I was excited to have matched in my top-choice program." Barbara Jacobs, MD Class of 2019 | Rheumatology, University of California, San Diego "My residency at Providence St Vincent made me very well prepared for my fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care. Without having fellows above me during residency, I was able to start the role as a fellow early— that meant running a team in the ICU, doing procedures, running codes, and working very closely with our intensivists. Even if you aren’t interested in pulm/crit, I think the experience makes you comfortable with very sick patients in a super supportive environment. I also loved the flexibility to shape my residency in a way that fit my interests, including going to Uganda for an international rotation, doing my QI project in the ICU, and spending extra time on palliative care electives to learn how to have hard conversations. Residency was the best part of my medical training by far." Angela Gibbs, MD Class of 2019 | Pulmonary/Critical Care, University of Arizona "My residency at Providence St. Vincent helped me to feel confident entering pulmonary critical care fellowship. My clinical experience during residency gave me a strong grounding in managing critically ill patients, and in working with a multi-disciplinary team. The mentoring and guidance I received helped me to hit the ground running, launching a career in research. Our residency class still keeps in contact regularly, despite now being scattered across the country! I loved my time at Providence, and I'm so grateful for all the support I received during my time there." Maeve MacMurdo, MD Class of 2018| Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship, Cleveland Clinic |
“Solid training in medicine is key to becoming an internist, specialist, or researcher. St. Vincent's provided a stellar learning experience with a breadth of learning under training of amazing clinicians. The quality improvement project guided by Drs. Sanders and Hendrickson allowed me to design, develop, implement, and present my own project which provided my first experience in clinical research. This helped me obtain fellowship and provide a first example of completing a research project.”
