Intern Adam Betcher"My intern year at Providence St Vincent was an incredible growth experience in a family-oriented environment of dedicated teachers and co-residents who cared about my learning and my well-being. Having a strong medicine foundation set me up for success during my rotations across multiple Acute Rehabilitation units in PM&R residency. During my intern year, I got broad medical exposure on the floors, in the ICU, rotating in the outpatient clinic, and on cardiology consults. I was allowed to make time rotating with orthopedic surgery, which helped me brush up on my MSK knowledge. Overall, I felt more prepared out of the gate in my PM&R residency to handle acutely decompensating patients and manage complex medical comorbidities (compared to other colleagues who pursued transitional year programs for their intern year) as a result of my time at St. Vincent’s. I attribute this foundational medical knowledge and the confidence I gained as an intern to be one factor in my success during the rest of residency, now being selected as chief resident during my PGY4 year at Montefiore and also landing a pain fellowship position at UC Davis. Providence St. Vincent is great program with great leadership. I have lots of gratitude for the time I spent there.” – Adam Betcher, former preliminary intern, Class of 2023
