I am thrilled to introduce you to a program that has not only shaped many incredible physicians but has also fostered a wonderful community that uplifts and supports each individual throughout their residency journey. Here at Providence St. Vincent, we pride ourselves on being a smaller program within a large, vibrant hospital setting. Our residents experience a broad range of pathologies and are prioritized for engaging in significant cases. This hospital is not only a bustling center with 550 beds and one of the busiest emergency departments in Oregon, but also serves as a major tertiary referral center in the region, handling complex cases from across Oregon and southern Washington. Our training environment is distinctively supportive, focusing on the well-being of our residents. We maintain a close-knit community atmosphere yet provide robust academic and practical training to ensure our residents are well-prepared for any future endeavors, whether that be in primary care, hospital-based medicine, rural health, or a specialized fellowship.
Residents at Providence St. Vincent take an active role in their education, facilitated by our on-campus clinic, resident-run reports, and specialist-led didactics. The intimate nature of our program means that residents form close relationships not only with each other but also with the broader hospital staff—from nurses to specialists to faculty, many of whom volunteer their time to educate because they are genuinely invested in our learning. Our faculty are dedicated educators and mentors who are deeply invested in your personal and professional growth. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from various sub-specialties, contributing richly to our dynamic curriculum.

Our program's welcoming attitude and the congenial environment have made many, including myself, choose to build their lives here. My journey from the Midwest to Portland started with residency, and the warmth and camaraderie of this program have made this city my home. The close relationships and the comprehensive training I received here have been instrumental in shaping my career.
