Hometown & Background
Dr. Sych was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine and immigrated to the United States at age two. Growing up in an immigrant family shaped his appreciation for community support, healthcare access, and continuity of care. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2012, he developed a strong interest in patient advocacy and the ways social factors influence health.
Dr. Sych is interested in patient‑centered, harm‑reduction‑informed care and approaches that recognize the role of social determinants of health. His clinical interests include behavioral health, addiction medicine, gender affirming care, HIV medicine/PrEP, and improving access for patients with complex medical and social needs.
During his rotations in Olympia through PNWU, Dr. Sych developed a strong connection to the local community and the region’s collaborative, patient‑focused clinical environment. He was drawn to this residency program’s commitment to community engagement, continuity of care, and training physicians to serve diverse populations across the South Puget Sound.
Outside of clinical settings, Dr. Sych enjoys participating in Olympia’s vibrant community life. He can often be found attending local events, advocacy gatherings, house shows, and other community‑centered spaces. He values opportunities to connect with others, support local artists and organizers, and stay engaged in the social fabric of the region.
