A mission trip to Bangladesh as an anesthesiologist changed Dr. Kondo’s vision to become a full scope family physician in 2002. After receiving board certification in anesthesiology, his passion towards care of disadvantaged populations and international medicine led him to change his entire career, to leave Japan and join St. Peter Family Medicine as a resident. He also pursued training in medical acupuncture and herbal medicine after graduating from family medicine residency. Dr. Kondo’s broad experience has brought unique skills and aspects to the program. He believes collaboration of Western and Eastern Medicine can give comprehensive, holistic care and enhance resident training. His particular interests in family medicine includes various procedures, point of care ultrasound (POCUS), obstetrics, acupuncture, international medicine and health care disparities. He is fluent in Japanese, and he is happy to speak to his Japanese patients in their first language whenever he gets the opportunity. In his free time, he enjoys long distance running (half marathon PR 1:26:43, full marathon PR 3:25:04), hiking, skiing, photography, traveling, watching sports, reading and most importantly, spending time with his wife and four girls.
