FAQ for IMG Applicants

What requirements do you have for IMG applicants?

In addition to meeting the application criteria found in How to apply, an IMG applicant must also:

  • attend a school that is accredited by the World Directory of Medical Schools
  • have completed 8 weeks of a family medicine rotations with direct patient care at least 6 weeks completed in a family medicine office located in the United States.
  • active, unrestricted ECFMG certificate

Do you sponsor visas (J1 student or H1B worker visas)?

We do not sponsor visas; we do accept ECFMG sponsored visas. We do not consider applications with only an EAD visa. You must be eligible to work in the United States by June 1 of the academic year in which you begin training (example: 6/1/24 for academic year 24-25).

Do you accept paper or universal applications?

NO. We accept only those applications submitted through the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) system. Please contact the ECFMG if you need additional information on applying through the ERAS system.
