Student Rotations

Providence Portland Internal Medicine Residency Program draws medical students from across the U.S. for Medicine subinternships and elective offerings. In addition, PPMC is a major teaching affiliate of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and routinely hosts third and fourth year clerks for their required Medicine rotations both on the wards and in the intensive care unit. There are four to eight medical students participating on our clinical services at any given time.

The educational program for the Medicine clerkship rotations at PPMC is spearheaded by Dr. Mary Anne Nidiry. Students are integrated into day-to-day work and educational rounds and the educational conferences of their ward teams. Specific mentorship on their written and orally presented cases is provided. They receive additional student-specific teaching sessions by medical education faculty.

Fourth year subinterns may rotate through the Medicine wards, Infectious Diseases, or in the intensive care unit. An emphasis on learning, feedback, and practical experience are key elements of their clinical experience at PPMC. Dr. Mary Anne Nidiry directs the inpatient ward subintern experience and Oregon Clinic Pulmonary/Critical Care physicians serve as both supervisors and educators on a daily basis in our very active ICU.
