We feel fortunate to work at the PMG-Northeast clinic, which is the resident-faculty continuity clinic connected to Providence Portland Internal Medicine Residency. Our outpatient support staff focus their energy on helping residents deliver high-quality care to their outpatient panel of patients. Residents work with a team of medical assistants and clinical care coordinators to provide good continuity of care even when not in the office. Our clinic nurses help to provide our patients with clinical teaching such as diabetes education, provide clinical care such as wound care, and provide telephone triage advice to patients with acute needs. The medical assistants assist the providers with helping to close care gaps such as cancer screenings, and facilitate the process of returning patient calls. Learning to collaborate with medical assistants is a crucial skill for efficiently practicing medicine. Our clinic also utilizes social work, clinical pharmacist and psychologist expertise to optimize the care of our patients. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team allows residents to learn crucial team management skills. We get to know all of the residents well and together we provide great care to our patients.
