Here at Psychiatry Residency Spokane, we use a systems based approach (Mayo Clinic, Shanafelt) and the IHI “Joy in Work” framework.

Curriculum

  • Didactic sessions on fatigue, mindfulness, smartphrase development (to improve satisfaction with EPIC), community volunteer events
  • Biannual resident retreats
  • Systems of medicine curriculum that includes narrative reflections to enhance meaning in medicine
  • Internal Medicine residency focus on humanism on housestaff rotations.

Program policies

  • Three wellbeing ½ days per year
  • We prioritize time for residents and faculty to attend medical, mental health and dental appointments: ACGME resident survey AY 21-22 - 100% of PRS residents report that they are able to attend personal appointments
  • T group - this is a resident weekly process group to encourage peer-peer support and mentorship.
  • Time and financial support to attend regional or national conferences – program time away policy available on request
