Inpatient
  • Short Call
    • What: Monday through Thursday evening (5-7 pm) call shift with 2 residents to admit patients to inpatient psych or consult on patients in ED or hospitalized for medical reasons (2 patient max).
    • Why: Provide an opportunity for junior residents to learn directly from senior residents on how they approach admissions, cross cover issues, emergency room consults, etc.
    • Also: Give seniors the chance to both teach and maintain their hospital-based skills throughout their outpatient year and as they move closer to attending-hood as an R4.
  • Overnight call is taken from home by the R2/R3/R4 short call resident after their short call shift is completed. This resident is occasionally required to go to the hospital for late admits, unplanned discharges, or for acute patient situations that require their direct presence
  • Weekend Call
    • Resident and attending responsible for covering one of the 8 bed inpatient psych teams plus assigned follow ups from consult service. Depending on volume may help with up to 1 new hospital consult per day.
    • Weekend inpatient call begins Friday night
    • R1 residents do not take solo call. They will participate in 2 weekends of inpatient training call where they will assist a senior resident (R3/R4) and be trained on weekend coverage.

    Outpatient
    • Only R3/R4 residents are responsible for outpatient call
    • Coverage is for STHC patients
    • Covered in 1-2 week spans; outpatient phone is handed off on Thursdays to the oncoming resident

    Backup Call
    • Residents will be assigned back up call for inpatient coverage (R2/R3/R4) and outpatient phone coverage (R3/R4)

    Moonlighting
  • Internal moonlighting is available on the weekends to eligible R3/R4 residents to cover an inpatient psych team, select consult patients, and up to 1 new consult per day.
  • External moonlighting is also available through local organizations to eligible R3/R4 residents.
  • ***If there is a resident long-term leave of absence, the call ratios will increase for the remaining residents in the program evenly***
