Clinical Educational Rotations

Providence Cancer Institute Fellowship Programs offer a unique, specialty specific clinical education rotation experience for current PGY-2+ residents. This opportunity can be used to learn more about our fellowship programs, meet specialty volume requirements, or explore possible career interests.

Participating programs allow interested residents to arrange rotations directly with the Program Director of the specialty they are interested in.

Currently, these programs are offering clinical educational rotation opportunities:

  • Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgical Fellowship*
  • Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgical Fellowship
  • Colon and Rectal Surgical Fellowship*

*These programs primarily operate within a private practice embedded into Providence Portland Medical Center.

Additionally, we offer clinical educational rotation opportunities with these cancer programs:

  • Integrative Medicine
  • Gynecologic Oncology

IMPORTANT:

  • We do not offer financial compensation, salary supplementation, or malpractice insurance coverage for rotations.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. Providence Oregon Region is not accepting exemptions for COVID-19 at this time.

Request Process

If you would like to request a rotation with one of our programs, please submit a Clinical Educational Rotation Request Form.

Once a rotation request has been submitted, it will be sent to the appropriate Program Director(s) for review.

If we are able to accommodate your request our Fellowship Coordinator will reach out to you via the e-mail provided to outline next steps, timeline, and confirmation of rotation details.

If we are unable to accommodate your request our Fellowship Coordinator will reach out to you via the e-mail provided to notify you of the decision and why.

Rotation Process

Next Steps: If your rotation is approved, our Fellowship Coordinator will send you instructions regarding the necessary paperwork for your rotation and confirm whether there is an affiliation agreement in place with your medical school.

Affiliation Agreement: All rotations require an affiliation agreement between your school and our hospital. If there is not an agreement currently in place, you will need to ensure one is set up. This requirement can take several weeks to secure so be sure to allow sufficient time in the application process.

Private Practice: Some of our programs operate in partnership with an aligned private practice. If you requested to rotate with one of those programs, you will need to be onboarded through their practice in addition to your Providence onboarding.

Alternate Locations: Occasionally, our program faculty have cases scheduled at alternative locations (making up approximately <10% of total program case volume). Unfortunately, rotators are not able to participate in cases scheduled at alternative locations due to extensive onboarding requirements.
