Clinical Experience

Year One:

The Fellow will complete over 100 neck dissections and associated Head and Neck procedures with an average case volume of 300 major Head and Neck OR cases annually. The fellow will gain extensive experience in all aspects of Head and Neck Surgery including but not limited to surgical treatment of cancers of the oral cavity, oropharynx, skull base, larynx, trachea, salivary glands, thoracic inlet, thyroid gland and skin.

Year Two:

The Fellow will complete 70-80 microvascular free flap procedures and a variety of loco-regional flaps for reconstruction of head and neck defects. There will be opportunities to participate in additional reconstructive procedures of the chest wall, esophagus and mediastinum.

Clinical Rotations

There is a formal rotation in laryngology to gain competence in outpatient endoscopy and bronchoscopy as well as operative transoral laser microsurgery and voice restoration.

Experiences in medical oncology and radiation oncology are facilitated by longitudinal multidisciplinary Head and Neck clinic visits at Providence Cancer Institute.

Tumor Boards

Weekly Multi-disciplinary Head and Neck Tumor Boards

Fellows will present and actively participate in the discussion of challenging cases and determination of the best possible treatment plan.
