About Providence Medical Group

Providence Medical Group (PMG) is part of Providence Health & Services, a large integrated health care system, and a leading provider of quality medical care in Oregon. PMG operates more than 40 primary care clinics in the Portland area dedicated to meeting the health care needs of the community. PMG’s Clinical Pharmacy Department is among the most progressive in the country, allowing residents to learn team-based, evidence-based care.

A Progressive PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency

The Providence Health & Services Oregon Region PGY1 and the Providence Medical Group PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Programs received the 2015 Pharmacy Residency Excellence Award from the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. The ASHP Foundation presents one award annually, highlighting the achievements of select residency programs and their preceptors, staff, and practice sites which have demonstrated excellence and leadership in the training of pharmacy residents.

The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency offers patient care experiences in a team-based primary care setting with the core in direct patient care. Working under clinical pharmacy agreements, residents are responsible for initiating and adjusting medication therapy for a variety of chronic disease states. As a member of the medical home team, residents work closely with providers, support staff, medical residents and community partners. Residents also are involved in research, education, committee work and stewardship activities, and develop practice leadership skills.
