Our Curriculum

Curriculum Aims

We have designed the residency curriculum, with ongoing input from residents and faculty, to meet these aims:

  • Recognize the Patient-Centered Medical Home, or PCMH, as the core of our practice and training at Providence Oregon Family Medicine Residency by integrating interns into teams within their clinic from day one and structuring both the inpatient and OB services to allow interns and residents to maintain a regular presence in clinic.
  • Longitudinal experiences for senior residents on labor and delivery, the family medicine inpatient service, and focused training in sports medicine, gynecology, outpatient pediatrics, emergency medicine and geriatrics.
  • Ensure high-quality, obstetrical experience for residents who want to practice obstetrical care
  • Guarantee residents who do not wish to perform deliveries after their residency a solid grounding in maternity care but also an alternative track with less OB and more inpatient medicine

Our Curriculum

  • Your intern year will start with a 2 week introduction to internship. The rest of the year is divided into three and six week blocks. All the interns join back together after the first twelve weeks for community medicine training and community-focused activities.
  • In total, we have 3 week-long vacations + 5 flexible vacation days throughout the year.
  • After our overnight residency retreat in February, the entire intern class has a week of vacation.
  • Every block includes continuity clinic with the exception of the three week ICU block.. OB and FM blocks have two full days of clinic most weeks.
  • Noon reports occur every Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday afternoons the majority of interns and residents have schedules blocked for case-based learning, resident meetings and support groups, and monthly clinic-based provider meetings and QI project time.
