Options for Advancing Your Clinical Career

Providence St. Mary Medical Center is a small rural hospital located in beautiful Walla Walla, Washington and serves southeast Washington and northeast Oregon. Our PGY1 residency is a one-year clinical and administrative program designed to meet the four main requirements outlined by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, including patient care, advancing practice, leadership, and education. Currently, we have four PGY1 positions available.

As a pharmacy resident, you will benefit from our unique training program that takes advantage of the wide variety of rotations and learning experiences within both acute and ambulatory care settings. Everything you learn about pharmacy practice will be based in our patient-centered mission of providing compassionate care.

St Mary Medical Center Pharmacy Residency Program Objectives

The pharmacy department is dedicated to providing the pharmacy resident with the skills, opportunities and knowledge to become a competent pharmacy practitioner. Pharmacy residents will receive guidance and mentoring to foster a professional attitude toward the profession of pharmacy.

This residency program is designed to provide a broad overview of institutional pharmacy practice and is tailored to meet the needs of each resident. It offers learning experience opportunities to the resident, including:

  • Internal medicine
  • Critical care
  • Infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship
  • Transitions of care
  • Ambulatory care
  • Oncology
  • Cardiology
  • Nephrology
  • Emergency medicine
  • Pharmacotherapy infusion clinic
  • Population health
  • Clinical management
  • Pharmacy management

Graduates will be prepared to provide advanced pharmaceutical care services to a wide variety of patients in diverse practice settings.
