Mission and Purpose

Providence St. Peter Family Medicine pharmacy residency is committed to excellence in patient-centered care and advancement of pharmacy practice.

The purpose of Providence St. Peter Family Medicine residency program is to train pharmacists who specialize in provision of primary care services within an interdisciplinary team while advancing patient-centered care through quality improvement, practice based leadership, and education of the health care team.

This residency prepares pharmacists to pursue an ambulatory care role where initiation and expansion of services are needed, and pharmacy leadership and education are desired.

ASHP PGY2 Purpose Statement

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Fostering Independence

Preceptors emphasize independence and growth in all learning experiences. By fostering ownership of clinical tasks, educational endeavors, and project management, we aim to graduate pharmacists who are prepared to thrive as an independent ambulatory care pharmacist.

Work and Life Balance

We believe in cultivating a resident’s ability to maintain work life balance while sustaining the highest level of patient care and active leadership in pharmacy practice. Residents do not have a required staffing component.
