Current Fellows

Jessica Coulter, M.D.Barbara Harper, MD

Jessica Coulter, M.D. (she/her) grew up in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Public Health. After college, she moved to San Francisco where she worked full-time while taking her medical school prerequisites at night. She volunteered at the Institute on Aging as a Friendship Line volunteer and as a visitor to a fascinating 101 year-old woman.

Once her medical school prerequisites were finished, she spent a year away from home and work– 8 months in Tanzania at an NGO, 2 months in Costa Rica improving her Spanish (which she has since forgotten), and 2 months riding her bike across the country (California to Delaware) with Ride for World Health. Her favorite stop on the way was Dolores, Colorado.

Jessica graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine with a four-year Army scholarship and completed her Family Medicine residency training at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Her next four years with the Army were at Madigan Family Medicine Residency where she started as an adjunct faculty member and finished as an Associate Program Director and a Major in the US Army. She coordinated the geriatrics curriculum during her three years as full-time faculty.

Jessica will soon begin her part-time Geriatric Medicine training at Swedish First Hill. Her hope is to transfer the skills she learns at Swedish directly to the large population of older military retirees and their loved ones. With the knowledge that there are not enough geriatricians to fill all the family medicine residencies, her hope is to create an online open-access Geriatric curriculum, improving resident education in care for older adults while also improving her own patient care. She lives with her spouse, a curious toddler who is discovering his emotions, and a 7-year old lab.

Frederique Messier, M.D.Barbara Harper, MD

Frederique Messier, M.D. (she/her), was born in Montreal, Canada. She completed her medical doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine of Sherbrooke. During her formative years in Canada, she volunteered across various establishments and uncovered a commitment to community service, particularly in the realm of geriatric care. She regularly engaged with patients and their families on the dialysis unit of Saint Mary Hospital in Montreal, provided support to residents at the Long-term care home 'Du Roy' in Sherbrooke, and contributed to improving the quality of life for patients at the Rehabilitation Institute Gingras-Lindsay in Montreal. As a family medicine resident at the University of Montreal in Quebec, Canada, Frederique assumed the role of Chief Resident. In this position, she advocated for her peers and spearheaded the integration of a geriatric curriculum for residents by recruiting Geriatric Medicine Specialists to deliver lectures and facilitating clinical exposure opportunities for family medicine residents. Eager for new experiences, Frederique and her husband chose to make the Pacific Northwest in Washington State their home. Deepening her commitment to community health, she joined Health Point in Redmond, WA, focusing on providing essential healthcare services to underprivileged communities. Currently, Frederique is enthusiastic about embracing the role of a geriatric fellow, driven by a sincere desire to be a better advocate for the aging population. Beyond the hospital setting, you'll often find her outdoors, immersing herself in the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, engaging in activities such as skiing and hiking.

Kristina Orbe, M.D. Stephen Supoyo, MD

Kristina Orbe, M.D. (she/her) who was born and raised in South Jersey to two Filipino immigrants. She attended college at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia where she majored in Biology and double-minored in Health Care Ethics and Faith Justice Studies. After graduating, she served with Jesuit Volunteer Corp Northwest/AmeriCorps working as a home care aide for adults with developmental disabilities in Tacoma, WA. She also worked as a home care aid for Kline Galland, Seattle, WA, and she is excited to return for to Kline Galland her geriatric fellowship. Her time has a home care aid gave her a true appreciation for accompaniment and building longitudinal relationships with patients.

Kristina left the Pacific Northwest (kicking and screaming) to attend medical school back in Philadelphia at Drexel University College of Medicine where she was president of the Family Medicine Interest Group and the Palliative Care Interest Group. She also volunteered as a patient advocate at a student-run clinic in a housing shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness. She completed her residency training at Swedish Cherry Hill Family Medicine, and where she further developed her skills in using medicine as an instrument for social justice and social change. Outside of the hospital, you can probably find Kristina doing something food related - whether that's cooking off of one of many saved recipes at home, trying a new restaurant, backpacking/camping for the purpose of cooking in a beautiful place, or picnicing with friends at sunset.
