Why I chose Providence: I chose Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center because I was seeking a well-rounded, acute care focused PGY1. The rotation schedule at Sacred Heart allows you to experience a wide variety of clinical areas, while also leaving room for additional electives. Sacred Heart is a large regional hospital that provides you with invaluable experiences managing the care of high acuity patients. Additionally, this program values its residents’ wellbeing and works to ensure each of us feels supported. As a new resident, I instantly felt like a valued member of the pharmacy community here. Finally, Spokane is located in the beautiful Inland Northwest, with countless opportunities for outdoor recreation and ways to amplify your work/life balance as a busy resident.

Why I chose Providence: I felt that Providence Sacred Heart was the right choice for me based on the wide variety of rotations offered, including pediatrics, so that I am able to become a well-rounded pharmacist. I was also drawn in by the fact that pharmacists are able to practice at the top of their licenses, with numerous pharmacist-driven protocols in place. The pharmacy team is very invested in our learning and has been a great support throughout our residency journey.

Why I chose Providence: I chose Providence Sacred Heart because I wanted to work in a larger hospital where I would be exposed to a wide variety of complex patients.After attending the virtual open house and speaking with several former residents, I was confident that the learning environment at Sacred Heart was a very positive one. Residents at Sacred Heart are very well supported and are both challenged and encouraged on a daily basis. I feel very fortunate to have learned so much during my time here thus far, and I am confident that my time at Sacred Heart will set me up the baseline knowledge and skills needed to accomplish my professional goals.

Why I chose Providence: As a prospective resident, I was interested in working in a large institution with a residency program focused on acute care that provided both adult and pediatric learning experiences – Sacred Heart provides both. Furthermore, the residency at Sacred Heart provides an expansive list of rotations involving high acuity patients where pharmacists are directly involved in the patients care, along with a longitudinal administrative and teaching component to provide a holistic residency experience. Additionally, after interviewing with leadership, clinical pharmacists, and current residents, I was excited and confident I would have an experience grounded in learning with consistent support from the entire department. Lastly, being in Spokane provides me the best of both worlds with the advantages of living in the city complied with being in the Inland Pacific Northwest bordering the Rocky Mountains providing endless outdoor recreation opportunities.

Why I chose Providence: I chose Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for many reasons, but the first of which was because the of the staple it is in our community. As someone who grew up in the area, Sacred Heart has always been regarded highly in our community. I have been interested in Providence for as long as I can remember given their impressive distinction. As Providence Sacred Heart is one of the largest facilities in the region, I was also especially interested in the program as it provides a wide variety of clinical experiences that have allowed me to explore my interests and become a well-rounded pharmacist. Additionally, Providence Sacred Heart is located in a state that has very progressive pharmacy practice; pharmacists at Sacred Heart are involved in many protocols and are regarded as a valuable member of the team. Lastly, I chose Providence Sacred Heart for the support and sense of community from the pharmacy staff. Throughout my interview last year, the notion of the involvement and encouragement of the entire staff with the residents was relayed by many. I have found this to be exceptionally true. The pharmacy staff at the hospital has a genuine interest in us all as individuals and in our professional success in the program. This team fosters a sense of community with activities both inside and out of the workplace on a regular basis.

Why I chose Providence: I was initially drawn to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center because of the large hospital setting that offered exposure to a wide variety of disease states and all of the rotation opportunities that I was looking for. During the interview, I was impressed by how welcoming and friendly everyone was. This culture has continued to be present throughout my residency experience, where I have felt supported in my personal and professional growth. The preceptors and pharmacists here are truly invested in fostering resident learning. All of these elements made me confident that this residency program would prepare me to be a well-rounded clinical pharmacist.
