Born in Zaragoza, Spain and immigrated to the USA as an infant, Mary grew up with Spanish Basque customs and language. Raised in a Spanish speaking home, in a tight-knit farming community, she learned the meaning of hard work and working together, which took root as a way of life. She initially earned a Bachelor’s of Nursing (BSN) from the Jesuit institution, Seattle University followed by a Masters of Nursing (MN) from the University of Washington with subsequent board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her values of striving for excellence, serving with compassion and fostering a culture of inclusivity and kindness is in alignment with those of Providence St. Joseph Health. She has over 30 years of nursing experience in the inpatient and outpatient setting in clinical and non-clinical roles. She brings a wide lens to the delivery of health care. Her passion for learning, teaching and growing is why she has chosen St. Peter Family Medicine Residency as the environment to do that. Here she has been able to collaborate with like-minded colleagues to innovate and focus on continuously improving on the delivery of patient-centered care using interdisciplinary models of care. This is foundational to keeping up with the changes in healthcare. Highlights have been getting published and presenting at STFM and the European Nursing Summit. Her greatest reward in life has come about from being a parent (a wild and unpredictable ride). She also enjoys outdoor activities like gardening, kayaking, and walking chats with friends and family.
