Professional Experience
The professional year allows for extensive experience with state-of-the-
art instrumentation and technology, along with a diversity of patient
specimens utilized throughout training.
Program Duration:
12-month program:
- July start
- January start
- Full-time, in-person
Professional Year:
- 1st Half: Lecture/Student lab
- 2nd Half: Clinical Rotations
- Instructors include experienced MLS faculty, phlebotomists, pathologists,
and leaders from Providence and our affiliates
Curriculum Covers:
- Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology/Coagulation, Immunohematology,
Medical Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Virology),
Urinalysis/Body Fluids, Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical Research, Phlebotomy,
and Laboratory Management and Practice

Certification Exam
Graduates from the PSHMC School of MLS receive a certificate of completion.
This certificate plus a baccalaureate degree, qualifies the graduate to take the
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) National Board of Certification
exam (BOC). Some states may require additional licensure.
