Admission Requirements

Degree Requirements

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required for the post-baccalaureate certificate option.
Students at affiliated universities may apply before finishing their undergraduate degree. Contact us for details.

Minimum GPA of 3.0

Emphasis placed on prerequisite and related science coursework GPA.

Minimum Academic Prerequisites

All prerequisites must be completed before the program starts. Applications may be submitted beforehand, as long as requirements are met by the program’s start date.

Chemistry – Minimum of 16 semester or 24 quarter credits, which must include:

  • General Chemistry
  • At least one upper division Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry course

Biological sciences – Minimum of 16 semester or 24 quarter credits, which must include:

  • General Microbiology or general Biology series
  • Immunology
  • Pathogenic Microbiology or Medical Bacteriology

Mathematics

  • Statistics

Preferred courses

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology

Additional Related Courses

Courses in the following subjects are also encouraged: hematology, clinical chemistry, molecular biology, instrumentation, quantitative analysis, organic chemistry and/or biochemistry (in addition to the minimum requirement), advanced pathogenic microbiology, infectious diseases, clinical diagnosis, mycology, parasitology, virology, antimicrobial therapy, genetics, epidemiology, microbial physiology, cell biology and medical terminology.

Non-academic Requirements

  • Personal interview to assess professional goals, judgment, potential for success, interpersonal skills and communication skills required for the profession.
  • Minimum of three references (from employers, professors or advisors); personal references or peer references will not be accepted.

  • Preference is given to regional candidates.

Any previous clinical laboratory or hospital-related experience, paid or voluntary, is encouraged.
