About Covenant Health

Covenant Health System celebrated 100 years of service to the West Texas region in 2018. Our facility provides healthcare to communities spanning 62 counties in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. The unique layout of West Texas makes Lubbock the most accessible advanced healthcare hub for a large patient population in the outlying rural communities. Covenant Health System has smaller hospitals and clinics in many of these rural communities in a mission to bring accessible healthcare to those in need. In Lubbock, Covenant Medical Center and Covenant Children’s Hospital combined have 500 licensed beds. Covenant Medical Center is designated as a Certified Stroke Center as well as Level II Trauma Center. We have an outstanding pharmacy staff that includes decentralized clinical pharmacists that work with interdisciplinary teams in many areas of the facility.

Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Residency Program

The PGY1 Residency Program at Covenant Heath System will provide pharmacists with advanced training in the acute care setting to make pharmacotherapy decisions in a variety of patient populations, be eligible for board certification and be eligible for post graduate year 2 (PGY2) training. Residents will participate in direct patient care, interdisciplinary rounds, project management, drug information and teaching.

PGY1 candidates will have opportunity to work with our clinical pharmacists in a variety of acute care settings including internal medicine, critical care, oncology, ER, palliative care, and nutritional support.

Candidates also have the option to obtain a Teaching Certificate with the Texas Tech University HSC Jerry H Hodge School of Pharmacy. Residents can network with local students and other residents in the state through the TTUHSC network of residency programs.

Pharmacy residents qualify for employee benefits based on election. The eligible benefits include medical, prescription, vision, and dental coverage (for you and your dependents), as well as paid time off. Administrative leave is provided for ASHP Midyear meeting attendance.

The Covenant Health PGY1 program is ASHP accredited.
