About Providence Medical Group

Providence Medical Group (PMG) is part of Providence Health & Services, a large integrated health care system, and a leading provider of quality medical care in Oregon. PMG operates 7 clinics in the Southern Oregon area and more than 40 primary care clinics in the Portland area dedicated to meeting the health care needs of the community. PMG’s Clinical Pharmacy Department is among the most progressive in the country, allowing residents to learn team-based, evidence-based care.

A Progressive PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency

The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency offers patient care experiences in a team-based primary care setting with the core in direct patient care. Working under clinical pharmacy agreements, residents are responsible for initiating and adjusting medication therapy for a variety of chronic disease states. As a member of the medical home team, residents work closely with providers, support staff, and community partners. Residents are involved in research, education, committee work and stewardship activities, and develop practice leadership skills.

Program Strengths

  • Flexibility allows residents to tailor the residency based on interests
  • Longitudinal learning provides structure and continuity
  • Face-to-face interaction builds relationships with patients
  • Collaboration allows residents to share knowledge and learn from other health care professionals

By the end of the residency program, the resident will be able to:

  • Establish a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice to provide evidence-based, patient-centered treatment
  • Demonstrate leadership and practice management skills
  • Promote health improvement, wellness and disease prevention
  • Demonstrate excellence in training and education
  • Serve as resource for the safe and effective use of medications

Residency Program Purpose Statement

The purpose of the PMG PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency program is to prepare ambulatory care pharmacy residents to provide direct patient care as members of a collaborative interdisciplinary practice.

Residency Structure

Residents rotate through family and internal medicine clinics on a quarterly basis while also participating in longitudinal experiences.
