Residency Program Director, PGY1 Pharmacy
Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Services
Providence St. Vincent Medical Center
Thank you for your interest in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR. As a leading community teaching hospital with a rich history of pharmacy practice and training, we offer a strong experience that prepares residents for real-world clinical and operational pharmacy practice. Our residents are also part of the broader Providence system, one of the largest health systems in the country, creating opportunities for networking and career growth in a variety of specialties and locations.
Our pharmacy residents complete their core rotations, clinical and operational staffing experience, and some electives at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. They also benefit from our connected health system by having additional electives available at other Providence Oregon hospitals and clinics. This supports additional learning experiences, a diversity of preceptors and advisors, and a variety of project opportunities. The residents are also connected to the large, broader group of Providence Oregon PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents, a distinctive feature of the program.
We are honored to have received the Residency Excellence Award from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, which recognizes excellence and leadership in the training and mentoring of pharmacy residents. Our team of dedicated preceptors are highly invested in the professional and personal growth of our residents. Whether a resident is rounding on a critically ill patient in the ICU, educating a heart transplant recipient on their medications, evaluating a TPN for a neonatal patient, or developing a monograph for a formulary review, they can be confident that they will have the support of a qualified preceptor. Because we believe in the layered learning model, residents also gain significant experience as preceptors of our student pharmacists from Oregon State University and Pacific University.
Regardless of the learning experience, residents are consistently challenged to grow in critical thinking, evidence-based knowledge, organized decision-making, and effective communication. Our goal is to prepare practice-ready pharmacists who are equipped to provide high-quality patient care in a variety of settings in their communities. It is rewarding and an honor to have a front row seat to our residents’ growth each year. I hope you will consider joining us for the next step in your career.
